Merry & Bright

Colourful-Seasons---Close-U

Today’s card is another we created in our Cards @ Toogoom class a couple of weeks ago.  You can see the 1st card here.  Both cards use the Emboss Resist Technique which you can find Technique Tutorials here.

For some reason I love Christmas baubles.  Don’t know why, but I especially love that they can come in all sizes & colours.  I don’t have a bauble set so I set about creating some of my own.

We used the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set to create our card by randomly stamping the Colourful-Seasons---Insidesnowflake images onto a piece of Whisper White CS, using the Emboss Resist Technique & punching out 3 different size circles.

To hang the baubles we die cut a “branch” from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, & Silver Foil before being attaching Silver Metallic Thread.  The Whisper White background has been embossed using the Softly Falling EF & then layered onto a piece of Dapper Denim CS.

It is Tuesday & that means a new technique for you to download & play with.  Remember, if you don’t have the product I’ve used on my card, use what you have on hand.  This week we are highlighting Emboss Resist.

This is one of the cards we created last Friday in our class.  I am happy to say the ladies loved it.  They also enjoyed playing with the technique too…..  I think in future I am going to have to take photos as everyone’ cards turned out so different which is fantastic.

These techniques appear on my blog every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month, along Technique-Layoutwith instructions for a card using the technique.  The Technique Tutorial is available for download by clicking on the Free Technique Tutorials Page, file in a folder & keep on hand to use or to refer back to at a later date.

Yes, SU! Demos are able to use them for your classes, workshops & demonstrations.  It just means that all the work is done for you, except of course your samples.

After a couple of requests, there are now 3 options available for you to choose from – .  Basic-Sponging---4-per-page

SC 063/12…

For such an easy challenge over at Sunny Challenges, I had a hard time creating sometime that I truely liked.  I started about 4 times, blank, walked around, blank, cleaned, blank, BUT then went & did some “retail therapy’ which I don’t usually do & YES, it did the trick!  Thank you Retail Therapy – you are my new best friend!

Our challenge this week is the sketch only!  Because the layout was so open, I decided to try a technique……

Measurements –
Base Card – Whisper White – 5 3/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 11cm x 14.5cm
Layer 1 – Not Quite Navy – 4 7/8″ x 3 3/4″ or 12.5cm x 10cm
Layer 2 – Whisper White – 5″ x 4 3/4″ or 13cm x 9.5cm

Supplies –
Stamp Set – French Foliage, A Word for You
Ink – Versamark, Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery, Not Quite Navy, Crumb Cake
Cardstock – Whisper White, Not Quite Navy
Accessories – Snail Glue, Heat Tool, Embossing Powders – White & Clear, Sponge

Technique
Emboss Resist – Tutorial may be found here

To select my ink colours, I wanted to go with something that was different, soft, but with one colour which would be vibrant.  Once I had decided on the ink colours, the next big step was the Cardstock colour to bring the ink colours out even more.  With technique in hand, I sort of selected random colours until I was happy with the look behind the technique.

Inside Card…

Once I had applied the Emboss Resist Technique to my card, I proceeded to sponge the colours of Tempting Turquoise, Crumb Cake & Certainly Celery Inks around the images with a Sponge.  I did this until I was happy with the result.

I then decided that it wasn’t shinny enough & didn’t really show the technique to it’s full potential, so I decided to dab the Versamark Ink over the entire piece, poured Clear Embossing Powder over the top & heat set with my Heat Tool.

I proceeded to cut the stamped piece of cardstock into 3 equal pieces & adhered to the piece of Not Quite Navy Cardstock with Snail Adhesive.

I wanted to apply a greeting to the card, but didn’t want to stamp or place any pieces over the top of the stamped images, so instead to stamp the greeting on the right hand side of the card in Not Quite Navy Ink.  I then adhered the Not Quite Navy piece to the Base Card – Whisper White.

Can you see the shine…

I’m really happy with the final outcome, as it is something I had pictured in my mind.  It is a very clean card, but I like this sort of card.

With the greeting I used, I can now use it for any occasion I choose…….

Why not pop on over to Sunny Challenges & check out what Gwen & Kris have both created.  We would love for you to join us this week.

Until next time, Happy Stampin’

TSSC206…

…and for something totally different, but you will have to scroll down to the end to see that…….

Today I have sat myself down & created a coupl eof cards for different things…..  I will post them over the next couple of days, so be sure to return to check them out.

This card was for the sketch over on Mary-Jo’s blog.  In fact a really easy sketch, but I will admit I did have a hard time with the 3 little boxes on the top of the sketch, so in the end I switched them to suit my card.  I hope she doesn’t mind, but one good thing about sketches is you can play with them to suit yourself, while at the same time not go too far outside the square, so to speak.

This was not the stamp set I had intended on using, but am happy with the result.  I will put a senitment on when I go to use the card.

Measurements –
Base Card – Lucky Limeade – 8 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 21cm x 10.5cm – Scored in the middle & folded in half
Layer 1 – Whisper White – 5 3/4″ x 4″ or 14.5cm x 10cm
Layer 2 – Calyspo Coral – 5 1/4″ x  3 5/8″ or 13.35cm x 9cm
Layer 1 – Whisper White – 5 1/8″ x 3 1/2″ or 13cm x 8.5cm

Inside Card & Envelope…

I started my card by stamping random images onto the saller piece of Whisper White using Versamark Ink, poured Clear Embossing Powder over the whole lot, tapped off & Heat Embossed it.  Once it was cool, I then grabbed some of the new “IN Colours” Inks of Lucky Limeade, Calyspo Coral & Pool Party, a sponge & sponged the inks randomly around the card until I thought it looked ok.  I lightly wiped the excess ink off with a tissue.

This piece was layerd onto Calyspo Coral & a Ribbon tied across the centre, tucked the ends under, adhered to the 2nd piece of Whisper White & then finally to the Base Card – Lucky Limeade.  I tied a bow which was adhered to the card with Mini Glue Dots.

Close Up of Embossed Leaves & Background…

For my 3 leaves up the top of the card, I stamped Versamark onto Calypso Coral & Lucky Limeade Cardstock, Heat Embossed using Clear Embossing Powder, cut around images & adhered to the card using Snail Adhesive & Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Gosh, when I read the above, this card should of took me all of about 5 minutes, but in fact it took me about 2 hours, as I kept chopping & changing my mind.

Supplies –
Stamp Set – French Foliage
Inks – Versamark, Lucky Limeade, Calyspo Coral, Pool Party
Cardstock – Whisper White, Lucky Limeade, Calyspo Coral
Ribbon – 3/8″ Ruffled – Pool Party
Accessories – Snail Adhesive, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals,
Sponge, Clear Embossing Powder

Now for that something different – THE MESS………………………..  I don’t know about anyone esle, but for some reason I always find myself with this…..  I suppose it would help to put things away after each card, but hey, that is way tooooooooooo easy!!!!  Mind you, this is only AFTER 2 cards!!!!

Can you see the card I posted sitting on top, with another just poking out ????

 Unti next time, Enjoy!

Tutorial – Emboss Resist…

Below, is a very simple tutorial to the great Technique – Emboss Resist.  I used this technique on this card

Supplies –
Stamp Set – Pocket Silhouettes
Inks – Daffodil Delight, Pool Party
Cardstock – Whisper White
Ink – Versamark
Accessories – Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Embossing Powder – White, Tissue, SU Sponger, Powder Tray

Instructions –

  1. Using your Embossing Buddy, rub over entire piece of Whisper White Cardstock – this will stop your Embossing Powder from sticking in the wrong places
  2. Ink your stamp using Versamark
  3. Stamp image direct onto Whisper White Cardstock
  4. Pour White Embossing Powder over your stamped image – be liberal with your powder
  5. Pour/Tap off excess onto a piece of paper or a Powder Tray & pour immediately back into the jar
  6. Heat image, being careful not to burn your cardstock. It will melt into a nice shinny image
  7. Using SU  Sponge & Daffodil Delight & Pool Party Inks, sponge over stamped images & cardstock until you are happy with the result
  8. To add a little more depth to your image, stamp image using the same colour inks you used for your sponging
  9. Buff images using a soft tissue – embossed images resist the sponged ink
  10. Complete & Embellish card

I hope this tutorial is very clear & not too complicated.  If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact me – vickiawright@bigpond.com

Until next time, Enjoy!

SC 015/11…

G’Day Friends,

Another week has gone & that means a NEW challenge.  This week it was set by Gwen, so be sure to pop over to leave some lovely comments for both  Kris & Gwen
As usual, we have 2 parts to the challenge, and this week along with the sketch, we had to use that great Technique – Emboss Resist.  This is such a fun technique that you will love seeing the finished creation once you start.

For my card, I wanted to use the new “IN” Colour – Pool Party, so I went straight for my trusty Colour Coach.

Measurements –
Base Card – Pool Party – 11 5/8″ x 4 1/8″ or 29.5cm x 10.5cm
Layer 1 – Whisper White – 5 3/4″ x 4″ or 14.5 cm x 10cm
Layer 2 x 2 – Wild Wasabi – 2 1/4″ x 2 1/2″ or 5.5cm x 6cm
Layer 3 x 2 – Whisper White – 2 1/8″ x 2 3/8″ or 5cm x 5.5cm

For my background on the larger piece of Whisper White, I heat embossed my image onto the Whisper White using Versamark, Not Quiet Navy Inks & Clear Embossing Powder.  Tutorial may be seen in this post

I then Heat Embossed the 2 small pieces of Whisper White using Embossing Powder – White.  Tutorial for Emboss Resist is separate posting & may be found after this posting.

Prior to adhering the Emboss Resist pieces to Wild Wasabi, I randomly stamped the same image over the top using Pool Party Ink.  Because I had used such light colours for my resist, I needed the images stamped  to bring out the colours.  These pieces were then adhered to the Whisper White.

For my greeting, I used my SU Marker – Not Quiet Navy & stamped direct onto a scrap of Whisper White I punched 2 Daffodil Delight pieces of cardstock using my Scallop Oval Punch & adhered these behind the greeting just enough so that I had a little of the scallop showing.  This was adhered to the Base Card with SU Dimensionals.

Supplies –
Stamp Set – Pocket Silhouettes, Afterthoughts
Ink – Versamark, Not Quite Navy, Wild Wasabi, Daffodil Delight, Pool Party
Cardstock – Pool Party, Wild Wasabi, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
Punches – Extra Large Oval, Scallop Oval
Accessories – Embossing Powder – White, Embossing Powder – Clear, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool, SU Sponges, SU Marker – Not Quiet Navy
